Who We Are
About Hiking in Maine
A community of Maine hikers documenting the trails, peaks, and wild places of the Pine Tree State.
Our Mission
Hiking in Maine exists to make Maine's trails accessible, well-documented, and findable — for first-timers exploring Acadia, experienced peak-baggers working the Hundred Highest, and everyone in between.
We write trail guides the way we'd want to receive them: accurate GPS coordinates, honest difficulty assessments, seasonal condition notes, and the practical details (parking, permits, dogs, water sources) that other guides leave out.
Maine has some of the finest hiking in the northeastern United States. We want it to stay that way — which is why every guide includes Leave No Trace reminders and links to the land managers who maintain these places.

A Note on Safety
Trail conditions change. What was accurate when we wrote a guide may not reflect current reality. Always check current conditions with the relevant land manager before heading out — especially in spring (snow/ice lingers) and after major storms. Carry a map, tell someone your plans, and turn around if conditions exceed your skills. Maine's backcountry is unforgiving and rescues are expensive.
